Personally, I believe that music is a spirit and its body parts are the conglomerate of harmonious sounds and the serene synergy of melody and rhythm. I also believe that God is a God of rhythm, a rhythm that He embedded in the hands of time, for example, humans are born, they live a little and then die, plants are put in the soil, live a little and die, the sun rises and then sets, the days come and go and the nights do the same too, and it goes on and on like music in the hands of a perfect God. This is why I thought, why not review music in the best way that I can and what best kind of music to review than the one that magnifies the God who first loved me.
That being said, I’m starting with ZOE by Odunayo Adebayo featuring Pastor Emmanuel Iren. First I’ll start with the impact of the lyrics, the melody, the themes, and the hitches that I feel would have made the song better. Kindly keep in mind that I’m not in any way a music expert and my opinions are not absolute either.

LYRICS
The first verse is powerful especially ‘…He gave me a priceless gift – the Holghost- through me, God is revealed, it’s a constant reminder that as believers, it ain’t just us, there’s The Greatest Entity living inside of us, He’s not a stranger, He feels the exact way we feel, He understands our weaknesses and yet makes strengths out of them. We have direction because we have His Spirit. The repetition in the song can be seen from two different perspectives, which I’ll talk about later, however, the lyrics is a power capsule for believers (Ephesians 3:17).
Also, about the repetition, I felt that at least one verse could have been added to the song to reduce the repetition, it would have been better if there was a verse before or after Pastor Iren’s part. It would have helped give the song a great finishing structure.
MELODY
If you’re like me, chants give me incomprehensible shivers, that’s the exact thing I felt when the song started. The melody was a hit for me, the drums and the keyboards were perfect in making the desired impression at the beginning of the song.
I strongly believe that the guitarists deserve groundbreaking awards, ‘cause it felt like the backbone of the melody was placed on their shoulders. They were able to sync properly with the intricate sounds of the violin, each sound sitting on the other properly without causing chaos. These were the instruments that impressed me the most, if they decided to remove the drums and the keyboards, the melody from the guitar and the violin would still carry the song gallantly.
THEMES
- Potency Of The God-Kind of Life
The Zoe is a Greek word that means ‘The God Kind of Life/ The Breath of God’. Every man is alive, they’ve got oxygen and carbon dioxide running through their nostrils but the kind of life that I’m talking about is different. As one with Christ, we don’t just breathe in oxygen, we have the breath of God inside of us, and without the breath of God inside of you, there’s just that one part of your existence that would never be unlocked. ‘ It’s the God’s Spirit in a person, the breath of the Almighty One, that makes wise human insight possible’ Job 32:8 MSB

Your life is not just a variable in the hands of time and luck, you have the wisdom of God, you’re literally only answerable to the God of time, cool, isn’t it? As a believer, you have a God who anticipates and is excited to have a conversation with you, He shows you stuff that you don’t know and He directs you, He’s not ashamed to be vulnerable enough to let the world know that He loves you. He died on the cross to redeem us from the rigors of this wicked world and to top it all, He chooses to glorify Himself through the earthen vessels like ourselves ‘But we have this treasure in earthen vessels that the excellency of the power may be of God and not of us’ (II Corinthians 4: 6-7) This is the reality that we constantly live in as sons and heirs of God.
2. Life According to His Principles
Most times it feels like, well, since I have given my life to Christ then I can continue to live as I like, really though, can you?? When you leave a country that you were born in and migrate to another, you don’t go there applying the rules of your home country in the new country that you’re in, you’ll never be effective in that environment if you do that. That is how it is in God’s kingdom when you leave the world for His domain, He gives you the new constitution, The Holy Bible, which contains His instructions and His principles.
That’s the only way to make you effective in His kingdom and in this world simultaneously, your life is no longer yours, you’re not to be controlled by your feelings, your circumstance, or your environment. I know you’ll say, does this mean that I don’t get to do my things my way?? Well, yeah, you do things His way, as hard as you think it’s going to be, here’s what He says, ‘Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly of heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.’ (Mattew 11:28-30)
So He’s here to tell you that following Him is a journey that you’re built to undertake so you can find rest in this world ‘cause when you seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness; all the good things of life that you think you need to hustle for would be added to you (Mattew 6:33).

This joy that I have is the Joy of the HolyGhost…’
If you read up until this point and you’re done with allowing life make decisions for you and you want to give the controls of your life to God, that’s the best decision that you’ll ever make, so say this prayer with me;
Lord Jesus, I am stuck and tired of doing it all by myself,
I just read that you love me and you’re vulnerable enough to show the world that you care about me,
I invite you into my life, and I believe that you died to redeem me from sin and a life of doubt and horror,
Thank you for coming into my life,
